Banner Box Print & Install for Northallerton Art Exhibition

Banner Box are delighted to have printed and installed a distinctive and eye-catching art installation in Northallerton; one which we feel is possibly one of the best we’ve done to date and a great example of the kind of project which our print lends itself to.

Joe Cornish Galleries were involved in the town’s unique project, what is effectively a striking open-air exhibition featuring some of the sixties’ best-known pop music icons including The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. The artists featured toured various venues throughout Yorkshire at the start of the decade before they were household names.

The photographs displayed were taken by award winning Yorkshire filmmaker and photographer, Paul Berriff, who worked with the gallery to create the panels which feature over 60 different images and which now adorn 500 feet of hoardings at Treadmills, where Northallerton prison once stood. The prison, which operated until around five years ago has since been mostly demolished. The Central Northallerton Development Company has a masterplan for its redevelopment and gave its full support to the art project.

Undoubtedly, the striking black & white images enhance the look of the area and hugely improve what would otherwise be quite bland hoardings during the site’s development. It is a great example of what can be achieved using wide format print and how developers and councils can make a difference using such high-quality imagery to add to a town’s overall appearance and improve the environment. Indeed, if the Northallerton BID is to succeed in its mission to add many more installations of this type in the town, then they may be looking for some further support from Banner Box.

The banners we’ve installed will no doubt attract a great deal of attention in Northallerton and surrounding areas. Fans of this iconic era will love the images on display, which along with The Beatles and The Stones also include Jimi Hendrix, Marianne Faithful, Adam Faith, Sandie Shaw and Roy Orbison. Paul Berriff, who captured these rare photographs has had a fascinating career. Read more here: http://www.paulberriff.com
